What are the Disney Resort hotels in Florida really like?

Are they really worth paying the extra money to stay in or are they just like any other hotel in Florida just on the Disney plot? Also, does anyone have any opinions about best and worst Disney Hotels? What are the Disney Resort hotels in Florida really like?
If safety is an issue, Disney has a lot of security.

I've stayed in Kissimmee, it was like staying in any city. We had to deal with the traffic.

I've stayed in Lake Buena Vista, off property, (Walt Disney World is actually in Lake Buena Vista). It was all right, but we were right next to I-4.

I've stayed on International Dr. and it was very noisy where we were. There's a lot of attractions on International Dr.

The traffic was also terrible.

Staying at a Disney Resort, is like staying on a different "World." The hotels are very clean and kept up really well. I can't say the same for any of the off property resorts.

Also, Walt Disney World is the size of San Francisco, so there is plenty to do!
best thing about staying at a disney resort is you use their bus stytem or monorail to get around and you also get extended hours at the parks and when riding their systems you don't pay for parking at any park.

best is to check prices at other hotels and many times disney runs specials which are either the same or less than the outside places, therefore you be better off staying in disney.

every disney resort is very clean and a great place to stay. I would check all hotels and than figure out the money difference of staying in disney or outside and figure allextra expenses on parking, extra long hours and the use of you own car. I have done both and must say staying a disney was much nicer, but again check your prices first. What are the Disney Resort hotels in Florida really like?
All of the Disney resorts do have that "DIsney magic" as many people will refer to it.

The pros of staying on Disney property are that you have complimentary bus service to the parks, you can have anything you purchase in the parks delivered back to your hotel room for free, if you fly into Orlando they offer free bus transportation from the airport to Disney (the DIsney Magical Express). You are surrounded by Disney 24 hours a day.

The hotels vary depending on whether you're looking at the deluxe, moderate, or value categories. I've stayed in all three, and they're all great, but you do get a more upscale feeling in the moderate than in the value and even higher in the deluxe than in the moderates.

On the deluxe level I've stayed at the Grand Floridian and Wilderness Lodge. They both have a different atmosphere, but were both nice.

On the moderate, I've stayed at the Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans. Again both very nice.

On the value, I've only stayed at the Pop Century. Good for the money, and still Disney.

I've never stayed at a bad Disney hotel.
The biggest benefit to the Disney Resorts are the extra perks that you get that you normally don't get at non-Disney hotels.

- Free transportation to and from the airport

- Free transportation to and from the parks/Down Town Disney

- Use of extra magic hours at the parks

- Elegibility for the Disney Dining Plan

- Package delivery service (they will deliver things you buy at the parks to your hotel)What are the Disney Resort hotels in Florida really like?
9 years ago when planning our first trip, I spent hrs researching and decided that it was best to stay on site because of transportation and extra magic hours. My husband disagreed and really did not want to spend the extra money. I was so convinced that staying on site was the best, so I told him that all I wanted for my birthday that yr was to stay on site.

That first morning we were on the resort bus from All Star Music to DHS. As we passed the main entrance in WDW we saw what had to be 2000+ cars slowly making their way into WDW. Then we arrive at DHS to see the lines of car waiting in line to get into the parking lot. My husband looked at me and said "I am so glad we are staying on site. The last thing I want to do is spend hrs trying to get ito the parks." Then the bus dropped us off right at the entrance where we bypassed all those staying off site who were already lined up waiting to get in over an hour before the park opened to the general public.

ETA: We leave Sat for our 3rd trip to WDW. All of which have been onsite.
No you dont need to go to a Disney Hotel

Youre never at the hotel room, youre at the park all day and night

Send for this visitor guide. There's gobs of hotels right outside of the main gate.

When I got this book, it was loaded with discount coupons.

and they will send you non stop literature for the next 2 yrs too.

I stayed right up the street from the main gate of WDW for $28 per night ( 2003 w/ a coupon)

Even still its only about $35 /night. This was a Days Inn. Those Disney hotels are very pricy.

They lure people from other countries into spending the big money, as they dont know what theyre doing, or where theyre going. Most even think its in Orlando and its in Kissimmee FL. ( actually Buena Vista )

Frankly, I barely remember the room, as youre so tired when you get home, and then up and gone the next morning again.

Never go to a non National Chain hotel. Stick with Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Ramada Inn etc.
The WDW resort hotels have to be seen to be believed. The lobbies are like being in a foreign country. One has animals from AK just oustide your windows. If you can afford to stay in one, they are awesome.
