We are going to Disney World next week! This is not our first trip, but it is our first trip where we are on an extremely tight budget. What is your favorite tip for saving money and still having fun while on a tight budget? We are staying at a hotel that offers free breakfast, so that meal is covered. We are bringing water bottles to save money on buying overpriced sodas at the park. Can I sneak in snacks? We'll be eating lunch at the theme parks and possibly dinner on some days. I'm interested in knowing some tricks of other budget conscious travelers for meals or otherwise. Thanks! What is your favorite money saving tip for Disney World?
You can get free ice water at any counter service restaurant. It saves you from carrying around water all day.
When I've been on a very tight budget, I've even taken a cooler in my car. If you get to the parks early and/or have AAA Diamond parking, you can go out to your car for sandwiches, etc.
Also, here's a list of free, fun things you can do: http://disneyworldadvice.blogspot.com/20鈥?/a>
Finally, don't go to the parks everyday. We often take at least one day to enjoy our hotel swimming pool and go to Downtown Disney and/or visit some of the luxury resorts. You can even ride the monorails for free - they don't "punch" your ticket until you go into a park.
Joel gave my best tip! Anywhere they have fountain drinks you can get FREE ice water!!! This will save you from having to carry the water bottles around with you, and you also won't have to shell out $3 for a bottle of water. I also do this at counter service restaurants. I'll order the "combo meal" but say I don't want the drink, and the meal becomes cheaper!! What is your favorite money saving tip for Disney World?
This site has some of the best money saving hints that we used.
staying longer!
you pay less everyday that you are there,What is your favorite money saving tip for Disney World?
well no need to sneak things in. they allow you to bring in snacks. the only requirement is that it has to already be prepared it can't be something that needs to be cooked or put together. so you could actually take a sandwhich if you wanted to.
we usually bring snacks like chips, cheesy crackers, granola bars.... stuff like that.
personally the money saving tips i would tell someone would be:
-bring a bottled drink
-bring packaged snacks
-try to limit the food you eat in the parks. when not staying in a disney hotel this is what i've always done. bring drinks and snacks, buy a chocolate milk and some french fries then go to mcdonalds or burger king or denny's after i leave the parks. but since lately i've been staying at a disney hotel i just get the dining plan and don't worry about food.
-limit yourself to a certain amount of money per person for souveniers and really try to stick to it. i usually bring $150 for myself for souveniers and usually spend just under that amount. and i get alot with it. last year i got 9 items for $150 so i'd say thats pretty good.
-try your hardest not to waste money on a locker. just bring a backpack they allow backpacks on every ride so that wouldn't be an issue and limit what you bring into the parks to a minimum. like:
phone
wallet
camera
video camera
drinks and snacks
depending on time of year a rain poncho
and depending on what time of year you go a jacket.
DON'T bring extra clothes they take up too much space and there are only a couple rides in all four theme parks that you might get wet doing. if you spill something on your self rinse if off and stand under the hand dryer for a few minutes. i just really get annoyed when people want to bring extra clothes. i've gone many times, never brought extra clothes and only actually wouldn't liked extra clothes once when splash mountain got out sequence and where you are supposed to think you're gonna get wet but don't actually got us absolutely soaked. and i was dripping wet all day long.
No reason to sneak in snacks as they are welcome into the parks! My family and I loaded fanny packs with snacks. Security searched the packs everyday and nothing was said. We also used insulated water bottles that could clip on to our belts. We mixed gatorade powder into the water the night before to give it a little flavor and froze the bottle in our rooms (we had a fridge). They next day we had a cold drink for most of the day.
If you are on a budget, then you'll most likely be eating counter service. The double burgers at most of the counter service places were large enough to feed one adult and a child or 2 kids. Not all the counter services had equal quality or equal proportions, so do some research at allears.net for the latest information.
We rarely ate inside the parks. We ate a good breakfast, snacked during our park venturing, then ate outside of Disney property. That in itself will save you a bundle.
Bringing water and snacks in is a good idea. If you are bringing a lot of heavy items, think about renting a locker at the front of the park. The money saved by not paying Disney rates for two bottles of water should cover the locker rental and save your back from all the lugging.
If you are going to be eating any sit down meals, think about late lunches instead of dinners. The lunch menus at most of the restaurants are very similar to the dinner menus, but cost less. This also goes for buffets. I have also had more luck with getting seats for late lunches when I don't have a reservation.
Good luck saving and enjoy your vacation.
