I have heard that everything is so high priced and of course I haven't been able to afford to go and take my child on a schoolteacher's salary. How do other people do it? Do teacher's kids just never get to see Disney? Is Disney World is so incredibly expensive, how can so many people afford to go?
I was a single mother for many years, received no child support, and lived on a clerical salary. What I did was get a big jar labeled "Disney World!" and put all my spare change in it, did a yard sale and put all the profit in the jar as well. We lessened the amount of times we got fast food and cooked at home instead. Some how, some way, we managed to scrounge enough money to go to Disney for 8 nights (one adult, one child). It was really great and I'm glad we made the efforts to sacrifice for a few months in order to save up for Disney. You can do it, it just takes some money management and time to save up enough $$ in order to enjoy yourselves without the worry if you'll go broke by the end of your vacation.
UPDATE: For the past 4 years or so, Disney has been giving away their FREE Dining Plan promo during the months of Mid-August thru the end of September. Check out their website for more info http://bookwdw.reservations.disney.go.co鈥?/a> ...but bear in mind that you will need to pay for the gratuity for the table service meals....Also, Disney is offering complimentary ground transportation to and from Orlando International Airport called "Magical Express".
When you think about how much it costs to go to another destination, say, New York City for example, Walt Disney World is not all that expensive. A night in a NYC hotel would cost over $300 a night, and that isn't including all the things you do when you get there, let alone getting yourself there.
With Walt Disney World, if you buy a package, your accommodations and your entertainment is already paid for. Then you have to pay for food (which you would no matter where you go) and getting yourself there. Orlando is a popular destination so airfare to there is usually pretty reasonable.
Like the others said, if you have a plan and want it bad enough, you'll save the money to go. Credit cards work too, but they can also lead to debt problems in the future. Is Disney World is so incredibly expensive, how can so many people afford to go?
I agree Disney World can be very expensive. But yes it's possible to go on a teacher's salary.
I love the suggestions the others have given you about saving money by limiting entertinment and eating out. This in itself works. It's been tried and tested by our own family with huge success.
Here's another suggestion, though. Come August of this year (2nd week or so) the new rates will be out. You can call and make your reservation for any time through the end of December of 2010. In the meantime you will have up to sixteen months (depending on when you go) to directly make payments to WDW (via website) for your booked vacation. Perhaps every week or every pay day you can pay a little towards the balance. If there is any extra money throughout the year put it towards that, too. All this will add up until eventually it's paid in full.
Heads up. If the cost of the vacation package decreases or they offer a free dining promotion be sure to call them before your trip so they can modify your reservation. By all means keep yourself informed about any and all promotions. It can save you a ton of money that you can use for other things.
Stay at a Value Resort. While I've never stayed at Pop Century all the fabulous comments I've heard about this resort makes me want to stay there. You may want to consider staying there, too.
If you fly in Disney will shuttle you to your resort and back to the airport at the end of your trip by way of the Magical Express. This amenity in itself will save you money, too.
Don't get discouraged. Making a few adjustments here and there will get you to WDW.
true its quite pricey but i wouldn't say that it is "too expensive". and yes teacher's children do get the opportunity to go. (my sister is a teacher and a single mother and she takes her child and i always join them).
people that don't have all the money in the world at their finger tips either put it on a credit card and make payments or open a vacation savings account and save the money in advance.
lately since the economy is bad people opt to eat out less and buy less products in order to save up for their big trip.
and it can actually be quite affordable if you drive instead of fly, stay in a cheap motel instead of a disney world hotel, eat at fast food restaurants instead of sit down restaurants, and only buy a 4 day base ticket instead of buying more days or adding on options like park hopper, no expiratiion, or water parks fun and more.Is Disney World is so incredibly expensive, how can so many people afford to go?
It is about $60 a ticket per person, but worth it if you go on a cool day when there are not many people.
If you want to go to a cheaper disney park, you may want to try going to Typhoon Lagoon (Disney's water park) It is only $40 per person.
Also you can go free on your birthday when yu bring the official copy of your birth certificate.
Another thing you could do is just start saving here and there, Make a little vacation fund and add to it.
Oh and if your coming from out of town, I suggest NOT staying at a disney hotel if your tight on cash.
Yeah, I didn't get to go there until I turned 18. My parents aren't rich and couldn't afford it when I was younger.
I guess there are a lot of rich people out there (just not us!) and tourists from other countries who apparently are rich enough to make the trip. It's a pity that there are kids who's never had the chance to enjoy Disney due to financial constraints. Believe me, I lived the pain:( But it was well worth the wait when I did finally get to go. I appreciated it more, too, because I wanted it so much more, I guess. Who says money can't buy happiness?!
Well it's a lot cheaper than other vacation trips like to other countries. And some people don't go for too long or they don't stay in the big fancy spa hotels. If you go to the website theres a price estimate and you pretend too book your trip and it tells u the price. I did it cause I wanna go after highschool with my bestest friend. And the price was a bit under $1,900. It was in a value Hotel, becuase you spend most of the time in the parks, you don't need all the big fancy fancy things=D
And don't worry, I'm sure one day you'll go to Disney.
Just be careful what you book because sometimes they get you with the special surprises.
I've been twice and don't make an incredible amount of money. Less than a teacher, I'm sure. What you have to do, is just plan ahead. When I was researching, I found everything was cheaper to buy separate, maybe not your case, maybe so. I planned a trip for October. I bought the plane tix, hotel, and transportation costs well ahead of time, mostly with my income tax return. Spending money, I just saved here and there. It worked out.
There are ways to save on a vacation. Right now, Disney has a lot of great deals. They have free dining for stays between August 16th-Oct. 3.
There's a code that will get you discounts on stays between June 7th-August 8th. It must be booked by June 6th. The code is "TCM" and you'll need to book with Disney or a travel agency that specializes in Disney.
For example: Value Resort for $89
http://bookwdw.reservations.disney.go.co鈥?/a>
Disneyland is offering pay for 3 nights, stay for 5. It must be booked by August 11. It's for stays through September 26.
Also, if you book your vacation through Disney or an agency that specializes in Disney, you can put it on a Disney Visa card. You'll pay no interest on your vacation for 6 months.
If you stay at a Walt Disney World hotel, you don't have to rent a car. They have free transportation to and from the airport and within Walt Disney World.
The Walt Disney company took a 40% loss on their profits last quarter. They are going to continue offering good deals.
Disney is expensive, but if you book during the right times you will get special offers. Save up and don't spend it on stupid stuff. When you child asks for a new toy or to eat out, say "Disney World or _____________." Eventually you will have enough.
Its exspensive but its not incredibly exspensive.
Alot of people go because DisneyWorld is the #1 vacation spot in the World.
Plastic is the answer. Without credit cards everyone will stay home
