I'm planning a surprise trip to Disney/Orlando for me and my girlfriend. What are some good places to stay in the area that is not to far from the parks but still in the middle of everything? What are some good hotels in Disney?
Stay at a Disney resort. Disney has a resort to fit any budget. The value resorts I believe are under $100 per night, the moderates just a bit over. Staying at a Disney resort gives you something the off site hotels can't: The world famous Disney service and PERKS!! Disney takes great care of their guests. They offer free shuttle service to and from the Orlando Int'l Airport. They also offer Extra Magic Hours, where one park is open late and one early, for resort guests only. There is also the free unlimited use of their transportation system getting you from your resort straight to the front door of the parks. Now, that doesn't seem like much, but when you take into account that the off site hotels only offer limited shuttle service, not door to door, and in many cases it costs extra, it is huge. Plus you can also take advantage of the Disney Dining plan, which will save you a ton on your food expenses. You can still visit the other attractions in Orlando very easily by an inexpensive cab ride or rent a car for the day, again saving money. I would suggest using the resort comparison tool at the Disney website. Check out the resorts and pick the one that is right for you. Then I would recommend calling for the reservations, for a couple of reasons. First, the Disney cast members are all experts and are trained to give you the most bang for your buck. Second, you want to book straight thru Disney because contrary to popular belief Disney keeps the best discounts for themselves, and the cast members that are in the reservation center will know the best discounts for you, if any apply.
I would highly recommend the park hopper option when purchasing your tickets. If you stay on property Disney offers some great discounts and packages, and adding the park hopper is an added bonus. The base tickets allow you to go to one park per day. The park hopper allows you to come and go as you please. For example, let's say you spent the early part of the day at the Animal Kingdom, and after a rest at the Pop Century resort, a swim and a bite to eat you want to hit the Disney Studios to ride the Aerosmith Rock 'N' Roller coaster and see Fantasmic, the outstanding night time fireworks and laser light show. You can ONLY do that if you have the park hopper option on your tickets. We ran into a situation on our last trip where we got into the Magic Kingdom and discovered it was VERY crowded. We decided to shift gears, hopped on the monorail and went over to Epcot which was not nearly as crowded. Again, the park hopper option was worth every penny.
I hope this all helps. One other suggestion is to check out the disboards. The disboards is a message boards type website all about going to Disney. You can get resort reviews, restaurant reviews, tips for avoiding crowds, advice and much more. There is even a section on all of the other attractions Orlando has to offer. I put the link below. The Disney website is also linked so you can look at all the resorts and attractions.
I just got back from there last week.
I would suggest staying in one of the resorts or villas there.
They have the Polynesian, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs etc. You can take a bus to any park in Disney (including waterparks and even Downtown Disney).
They're beautiful there, though a bit pricey.
There's also some nice hotels within the resort: Doubletree, Hilton, Holiday Inn.
Hope that helped! :)What are some good hotels in Disney?
WEll any of the disney hotels like the ones that have a monorail going to the parks or you could stay at one of the hotels in universal studios(hard rock, portofino, royal pacific) the pebody is another hotel i reccomend it is fairly nice and is located vey close to Hollywood studios in disney world. some other choices are the hilton , double tree, and holiday in. other hotels are the Polynesian, Old Key West, Saratoga all of which are on disney property.
Assuming money isn't an issue, I'd recommend staying at one of the on-property hotels. Depending on the time of year you go and what hotel, price can vary wildly from about $90/night up to $500/night.
My personal recommendations for a romantic hotel for the two of you would be any of the following (one from each pricing category)
Wilderness Lodge - This is one of the more expensive places on property, but also very cozy and romantic I'd say. Themed like the American northwest, incredible architecture, and good location for the Magic Kindgom.
Port Orleans Riverside - Middle of the road pricing, very impressive southern-bayou style theming. Many nights, the lounge area has a family-friendly performer known as Yee-Haw Bob who is reportedly very entertaining.
Pop Century - Least expensive. Not especially "romantic" but good for a budget, and likely to have somewhat less children than the other value-class resorts. Most people like the food court, and enjoy the (admittedly gaudy, but that's the point) theming.
Okay, just saw you added the $100/night pricing requirement. In that case, the value class resorts are your only on-property option, unless you'd want to "Rent DVC Points" (google it, or check on the site I listed). May not be a bad option, but will require just a bit of research.
Beyond that, you'd be looking at staying in an offsite property. There's a LOT to choose from. What are some good hotels in Disney?
Well, depending when you are visiting, you can sometimes get a value resort room for $82.00 on Disney property (All Star Movies, All Stars Music, All Star Sports, and Pop Century). If by chance you have AAA, you can get up to 20% off the price of a room. If you book the room only and not the package...and go during the value season, you can get a room with AAA for as low as $65.00/night.
I just booked a package for December (during value season) through AAA for six days/five nights. We are staying at the All Stars Movie resort, getting 4-day base tickets (one park per day), the dining plan, and other perks and the cost was $1255.
I just got back from Disney! My family and I stayed at Port Orleans, Riverside! This has actually been the 3rd time ive stayed at this resort!
It's beautiful, relaxing and fun! I cannot wait til I go back to disney ( probably not for the next few years :-( ..but yeahh definitely consider staying there!
Plus its one of their moderate resorts, so its not too expensive!
Hope this helps!
Any of the "budget" disney resorts are great because they aren't terribly expensive and still nice. We stayed at Pop Century on our last trip and really enjoyed it. Plus you get Disney service and benefits (able to get in some parks earlier on specific days; free parking at parks; free shuttle service to all of Disney World; using room key as park ticket AND for charging ability; package delivery to the hotel - depends on how long you will be there).
